FOOD & NUTRITION

We believe that eating nutritious food and developing healthy eating habits is an important part of growing up. Breakfast is served to all children at 9:00 a.m.  A delicious, well balanced lunch is served every day at noon,  and an afternoon snack is provided as well. The children and staff eat together in their classrooms, family style.  We believe that meal times are another way to promote social development in young children and a time to get to know the children individually. Menus are sent home monthly.  Children also have numerous cooking activities in the classroom.

Silver Spring Child Care participates in the Maryland State Food Program, which is funded by the USDA. We are required to fulfill certain eligibility requirements. The meals and snacks that we serve must meet nutritional standards. All parents are requested to fill out applications annually.
