SEPTEMBER 2009 NEWSLETTER

Our gifted and caring teachers have dedicated themselves to providing children with the very best care. Our staff are professionals in their field, whose love of children is evident everyday.

The Staff and I realize what a huge responsibility you have entrusted with us and pledge to give your child the best care possible. Our goal is to provide for each child an environment of unconditional love, support, and respect. Our hope is that their self-esteem will be enhanced and nurtured in every interaction with an adult. We feel that one of the greatest gifts we can give to your child is the "love of learning".

Silver Spring Child Care has been fortunate to have the support of concerned and conscientious parents through the years. We have had a loyal, hard-working and dedicated Board of Directors whose mission has been to keep this center healthy.

Good communication is encouraged between parent and teacher, but many times when you bring or pick up your child, the staff are busy with the children and can not give parent’s their full attention. Please feel free to phone conference while the children are resting (between 1:00 and 2:30) or make an appointment to meet with your child’s teacher.

We love parent’s to be involved in the classroom activities. If you have a special book, project, or talent to share with the children, please make arrangements with me or your child’s teacher.

BOARD MEETING
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 17 - 7:00 PM

I hope you can attend the first Board Meeting of this school year. It is a wonderful way of meeting great people and have a real input in the place where your child spends much of his or her day. We will meet in Conference Room on the 2nd. floor.

MUSIC AND MOVEMENT
Jan Forbes is volunteering through the Link Age Place, an inter generational program in connection with Christ Congregation Church, to provide a weekly interactive music program for the children.
Jan’s background is in Education. She retired from Westmoreland Children’s Center after teaching two and three year olds for 26 years. Jan plays the piano and the guitar. She has varied materials for the children including instruments.

LIL’ DRAGON KARATE PROGRAM
Martial Arts is fun for children and is a valuable tool for teaching children to be assertive and to develop good self esteem. The lessons are scheduled for every Friday Morning. Ms Amy is always happy to provide a fee lesson if you would like your child to try karate. I have the applications in the office.

RAFAEL TOVAR - SPANISH
Rafael Tovar, a well known preschool teacher in Silver Spring, has been teaching our children Spanish for many years. I think that he is a great teacher and am so happy that he is able to return this year. His first Spanish lesson is scheduled for the afternoon of Wednesday, September 16, 2007.

OTHER PROGRAMS TO BEGIN IN OCTOBER.

Because we are going into the flu season it is very important for us to know the reason your child is absent. Call 301-589-1593 or e-mail - silverspringccc@aol.com
